Louisiana is home to the United States largest swamps known as the Atchafalaya Basin . The term Atchafalaya originated from the Native American Choctaw Tribe meaning “Long River”. The Atchafalaya Basin spreads over one million acres. This habitat is home to many species of birds, fish,amphibians, and reptiles.
